Emotion Regulation

Lesson 1 of 9

The emotion weather report

About 3 min

The goal

Build the naming habit: a quick, low-pressure check-in you can do daily.

Do it step by step

  1. 1

Pause and ask: what's my emotional weather right now — sunny, stormy, foggy, flat?

  2. 2

Turn the weather into one or two real emotion words. A feelings list helps if words won't come.

  3. 3

Add where it sits in your body: "tight chest," "buzzy head."

  4. 4

That's it. No fixing required — naming is the whole exercise.

For parents

Make it a household ritual (at dinner or in the car) where everyone reports, adults included. Never correct someone's weather.
