Walking the Middle Path

Lesson 2 of 8

Both/and practice

About 5 min

The goal

Practice holding two true things at once instead of picking a side.

Do it step by step

  1. 1

Write one "or" statement from your life: "Either I cope or I'm failing."

  2. 2

Rewrite it with "and": "I'm struggling AND I'm still trying."

  3. 3

Do the same for a family tension: "You need space AND I need to know you're safe."

  4. 4

Say the both/and versions out loud. They often feel strange at first — that's the muscle stretching.

For parents

Try one both/and sentence in a real conversation this week ("I love you AND I need quiet right now"). It lands better than either half alone.
